Reading
Fluency and comprehension so the page makes sense — and reading feels like a win instead of a fight.
Learn. Grow. Succeed.
Personalized support. Lifelong confidence.
One child. One licensed teacher. A quiet room in Red Bank. Mandi Thurmond, M.Ed. has spent 18 years in elementary classrooms — as a literacy lead, curriculum developer, and intervention teacher — and now coaches K–5 students who are catching up, stuck, or ready to go further.
What we work on
Reading, math, writing, study skills, test prep, and stretch work for accelerated students — planned around your child, not a stack of worksheets.
Fluency and comprehension so the page makes sense — and reading feels like a win instead of a fight.
Number sense, concepts, and problem solving until the “I can’t” quietens down.
Getting ideas onto the page: sentences, organization, grammar, and a voice they recognize as theirs.
Routines and tools that make schoolwork less chaotic once they walk back through your door.
Calm, specific practice for classroom tests and state assessments — not cramming, not panic.
Enrichment and extension when the classroom work is already easy — deeper reading, richer math, stronger writing. Stretch, not busywork. Grades K–5.
Why families choose Scenic City Learning
This is not a franchise and not a homework mill. Mandi brings licensed classroom expertise, literacy leadership, and curriculum design into a one-on-one hour — then makes it feel doable.
per hour · one-on-one · at the house
No packages to decode. You book time. Your child gets a licensed teacher’s full attention.
Reserve a timeWho it’s for
Scenic City Learning is a good fit when a child needs a calmer adult, a clearer path, and practice that actually matches where they are — including students who are already ahead.
Homework stretches into the evening. Reading is slow. Math melts down. You want help that doesn’t add another fight at the kitchen table.
Teachers say “they’re so smart,” and still the grade, the fluency, or the confidence isn’t matching. That’s a coaching problem, not a character problem.
State testing, a new grade, or a skill that never quite locked in. We practice on purpose, without turning the child into a worksheet.
The assignment is done in ten minutes. They need stretch: harder books, richer math, real writing — not extra packets of the same work.

Regular sessions, a plan you can understand, and a child who starts to believe: I can do this.
A dedicated, calm space. No coffee-shop noise, no library scramble, no extra stop at your kitchen table.
Easy for families in Red Bank and greater Chattanooga. You’ll get the address with the confirmation.
Materials and pacing change with them. If it’s not helping, we change the plan — not the child.
Meet the teacher
Mandi is a licensed teacher with a master’s in education and 18 years in elementary classrooms. She has been the literacy lead, the curriculum developer, the intervention teacher — the person a school calls when a child needs a clearer path.
Scenic City Learning is that same care, one student at a time, in her Red Bank home. Warm, practical, and stubbornly encouraging.
“Every child can learn. My job is to help them believe it.”
